Festivals and its significance

The festival of Makar Shankranti got over two days back and the importance of this festival set my thoughts flowing .

This is one festival that is celebrated all over India in different names. Be it Lohri in North,
Pongal in Tamil Nadu,,Makar Shanranti in rest of the country,it is celebration day for the farmers as they thank God for the bountiful crops. We all know that .
But the best part is not just the farmers but entire India and its people join in and celebrate.Everyone pitches in with great joy and there is so much brotherhood for that one or two days, eating, drinking, generally merry making.

I  realised that this festival like other festivals  brings people and families together.People forget their ego, their negativity ,their ill thoughts about others and take part in the festivities with full verve and enthusiasm.
It also set my thinking ball rolling with a simple and thought provoking question:

Why can't people continue to have the same warmth ,the ease in communicating their thoughts openly and freely throughout their interaction even after festivities are over.? Why does it pop out only during the fiesta time?
What prevents them from openly embracing others,  listening to their point of view, listen to others words rather than just hearing and forgetting? Debating in a healthy way,not argue and create discord?
Accept people as who they are and let go of past bitterness and enmity?.
The significance of Boghi down South is burning of old garbage, used and discarded articles ,which signifies the removal of one's negativity from mind, burn their arrogance, ego and embrace positivism and accept change with welcome arms.

So all I would end my piece by saying we live one life, therefore rather than carry past baggage  of enmity, hatred and hardened mind, let us throw away all that is harmful for our future and look forward to a life filled with new hope and beginning staring now.

Happy Makar Shankranti!!!!!!Happy Pongal!!!!!!
